Living History Tours
An Active Learning Experience

A visit to the Astor summer cottage is no ordinary mansion tour.  You are transported back in time for an introduction to Newport and its social elite through interaction with actors portraying Mrs. Astor's family, guests, and staff.  There are no tedious historical lectures or security guards with disapproving eyes.  Instead, you find a lively re-creation of the
splendid lifestyle that the Astor family brought to Newport during the Victorian era.

During your visit, you will be treated as a member of America's first social register - "The 400," created by Mrs. Astor.  As Mrs. Astor's family members, society friends, and serving staff guide you through Beechwood, you will learn about the lifestyles of the colorful
characters who bring to life this time gone by.  It is only fitting that the home
where American Society began, should welcome you to step back in time and become a part of this exciting moment in history.
